Cards/Cubs Rivalry Going to the Dogs (and Cats)
“Step Up to the Plate” Fundraiser Fuels Friendly Competition between Animal Shelters
(St. Louis, June 17, 2013) - The Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) and The Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago once again find themselves going head-to-head, or, in this case, tail-to-tail, in a Cards/Cubs rivalry to determine which city has more love for their shelter pets!
During the upcoming Cardinals/Cubs home series, June 17- 20, and the away series in July, the APA and The Anti-Cruelty Society will compete to see who can raise more money for their animals. The shelter that raises less money will be forced to give the next nine pets in their shelter names of the opposing team’s starting lineup. The APA won last year, leading to a whole slew of Chicago dogs with names like Yadier Molina, David Freese, and Carlos Beltran.
“We had a great time with this event last year and hope to build on the momentum that it started. Both cities have a tremendous amount of support for both baseball and animal welfare, so we hope to see an even larger competition this year,” says APA Executive Director Steve Kaufman. “We have our work cut out for us again, but Cards fans never disappoint. Go Birds!”
